I was in town visiting my brother for the day and he made the recommendation that we eat here. He informed us that this is the second location for Angelle's, and was newly opened. He said that he and his wife had been a few times and everything they have tried was great.
We were a party of 6 and arrived after the typical lunch hour, we had no wait and were served by Pat, who was friendly, patient, and spoiled us with an abundance of unsolicited refills, which I appreciated because it seems like in Richmond I always need to ask.
I had the "Double Down Special ". A philly cheesesteak with double the meat and double the cheese and a side of fries. It did not disappoint. The roll was heaping full and it was juicy and delicious. No wonder Pat had brought extra napkins. I would have to say it was one of the best cheesesteaks I have had. And while I'm not usually a fan of crinkle cut fries, these were actually pretty good. Light on the inside and crispy on the outside and not overcooked.
Others in our party had salmon (a picky teen gave it two thumbs up), a regular burger, meatloaf, bbq/brisket, and the highly anticipated "The Ultimate Cheeseburger", which Pat was really excited that was ordered, she said it had 5 cheeses plus macaroni and cheese. It came out cooked to order (medium rare) and piled high. It was demolished by my boyfriend, he said it was one of the most amazing burgers he has ever had and he would definitely get that again.
Then came the desserts. We hadn't had much of a breakfast so we had a little room for a few sweet treats. Wow. Pat explained that the desserts are locally made by the owner of the now-closed Willow Pond Bakery, she is only doing commercial business now. Wow. Mike and I shared a huge slice of peanut butter cake, it was one of the biggest slices of cake I have been served in a restaurant, it was very rich and very good, though for my taste it lacked sweetness and that peanut butter punch I was hoping for. Still very good. Haley had chocolate cheesecake and said it was the best cheesesteaks ever, I had a taste and I might just have to agree with her. Sherry had the Dutch apple pie, apparently she looks for it when they go here, so it must be great.
We all enjoyed our food and hanging out together at Angelle's. They took an old Shoney's and cleaned it up and added some nice character to it, a cute bar, not a lot of frills, added some really nice outdoor seating for those not so opressedly hot summer days.
My only "complaint " would be that there are too many TVs. I expect that in a sports bar or sport restaurant, but not really at a diner. It was kinda distracting, but not a dealbreaker.
I can for sure say that this is a no-brainer family friendly restaurant. They have a very good selection of food, sure to please all. When back in the area visiting, I know where I will want to go! -

A nice job remodeling but it's definitely highway food. Nothing special about the brisket, shrimp or burgers. Greasy. The salad had some bad lettuce pieces in it. Cheap bread.
I feel we should have known better but since it's newly opened we wanted to give it a try.
Our waitress was delightful but we will not be back.
We learned that it's the same owner as the Omlet House nearby. We would feel ill after eating there also. -

I would give this place a 1 star. Me and my boyfriend went friday night 9-27-19. There was 3 cars in the parking lot. Was not busy had 3 other customers. We were seated and waited for a waitress to come and wait on us but 10 minutes went by still no waitress. Then we seen some customers were seated behind us and within seconds a waitress waited on them. We were very upset that NO ONE bother to wait on us. There were 3 waitresses at the bar area doing nothing but talking, 3 more over at the counter 1 biting her nails. Will never go back. Didn't get to try the food but the SEVICE SUCKED. This is the Salem va location.

My wife's and I dined Thursday's evening at Angelle's. Great food, great environment, great service. Ribs, briskets, greens, Macaroni and cheese delicious. Ribs only on Thursday, my wife enjoyed her bacon burger, french fries and carrot cake. Recommend the bacon burger and carrot cake as well. Great experience!!

We ate here with our kiddos while traveling through Salem. I had the Eggs Benedict. The ham had a nice quality and crispness, the grits were creamy and wonderful. Overall a solid breakfast with appropriate portions and nice presentation. The waitstaff was friendly and prompt. I know this is a newer place and I would recommend trying.
